- For the mirror universe counterpart, see Ardana (mirror).
Ardana is a planet, the third planet in the Mu Leonis A system, in the Beta Quadrant. It is homeworld to the humanoid Ardanan race, and a member world of the United Federation of Planets.
- The ST reference: The Worlds of the Federation titled its Ardana entry "Mu Leonis II" despite describing and illustrating it as the third planet. Star Charts and Star Trek Maps also identified it as the third.
- The Worlds of the Federation also stated Ardana has no moons, while another source (FASA RPG module: The Federation) claims it has a single moon.
History and specifics[]
Ardana was famed for its "cloud city," Stratos. Other major cities on the planet's surface were First City, Lejico, and Droxana. (CoE eBook: Signs from Heaven)
Early in the 23rd century, a Federation scout mission to Ardana explored the surface and detected its extensive zenite deposits. (TOS board game: The Adventure Game)
Ardana was admitted into the United Federation of Planets in the year 2263. (ST reference: Star Charts)
In 2264, Captain James T. Kirk and Commander Gary Mitchell visited Ardana while on shore leave from the USS Sacagawea. While visiting First City, and waiting for a chance to visit Stratos, an urgent message from Commodore Robert Wesley ended the vacation early, and their starship was diverted to Regulus. (TOS novel: The Captain's Oath)
Ardana was, as of 2269, the only source of zenite in the Federation. The USS Enterprise visited Ardana in that year to collect a consignment of zenite to cure a botanical plague on Merak II. (TOS episode & Star Trek 6 novelization: The Cloud Minders)
First Splinter timeline[]
In 2377, Stratos's anti-gravity engines began to fail, threatening First City as well as the entire surface. A team from the Starfleet Corps of Engineers attempted to repair the engines, then failing that, to land the city safely. This effort failed when factions opposed to the city's preservation fired explosive armaments at the descending city, destroying it. (CoE eBook: Signs from Heaven)
In 2380, Councillor Strovos represented Ardana in the Federation Council. (ST novel: Articles of the Federation)
In 2381, Ardana was one of the worlds targeted as part of a massive Borg invasion. The planet was saved through the sacrifice of the IRW Verithrax, a vessel in the fleet of the Imperial Romulan State. (ST - Destiny novel: Lost Souls)
In the aftermath of the attack, scattered refugee camps were named after Verithrax, and Ardana was also erecting a statue in honor of the Romulan vessel. The USS Sugihara aided Ardana's reconstruction efforts, helping rebuild the planet's transporter systems and excavate buried zenite mines. Unfortunately, the attack left some seismic instability under the city of Lejico. This triggered an earthquake measuring 9.5 on the Richter scale that killed 203 Ardanans and four of Sugihara's crew. (ST - Destiny novel: A Singular Destiny)
