The Areolans were a type of sentient alien lifeform, a civilization native to a homeworld located somewhere in the space of the galaxy's Alpha or Beta Quadrants.
History and specifics[]
The Areolans were the primitive inhabitants of Areolus V. They were mentioned in a book by Professor Charles Novakovich, who wrote on his experiences with their culture before he started to teach at Starfleet Academy.
In the 24th century, Novakovich spent four years studying the Areolans. To gain trust, he provided medical aid to them, which eventually led to a court martial and official reprimand by Starfleet Command. (Last Unicorn RPG - SA module: Starfleet Academy Handbook)
