The Argon-class was a 23rd century class III civilian Federation cargo vessel starship that could be variously outfitted as a freighter, commercial transport, or cruise ship.

Specifications[]

The Argon-class was an affordable, sturdy, and reliable commercial vessel. Its top deck was outfitted with quarters, a cargo transporter, a 3-person transporter, recreation lounge, and the bridge. Its bottom deck was three decks in height, configurable as needed by the owner. When partitioned as a freighter, it had 7,200 standard cargo units capable of hauling 60,000 metric tons of cargo. The vessel was powered by two type FIB-1 impulse engines and two type FWH-1 warp engines. The MKI design was available for 19.2 million credits, whereas an MKII uprated with type FSA deflector shields was 21.7 million credits. These ships had thrusters for planetary landings. (FASA RPG module: Trader Captains and Merchant Princes)

Service history and disposition[]

The MKI entered service in the mid 2240s decade, on reference stardate 1/8609, with 308 built. The MKII entered service six years later, on reference stardate 1/9224, with 626 built. (FASA RPG module: Trader Captains and Merchant Princes)

At least one custom MKIV variant existed, equipped with a type OD-1 aft phaser, type OSA deflector shields, a 6-person transporter, uprated OIB-type impulse engines, and OWA-type warp engines that gave it significantly greater speed. This craft was formerly a MKI in service to the Merchant Marines that was sold for surplus, purchased, and uprated to become the transport Roulashakballih. (FASA RPG module: Margin of Profit)

Sirius-based Highliner Cruises configured 180 Argon-class vessels as cruise ships. Saterluy Trading Company configured 47 Argon-class vessels as trading vessels. (FASA RPG module: Spacelanes: The Magazine of Interstellar Trade)

By 2287, Triangle Shipping owned and operated 40 Argon-class freighters. (FASA RPG module: The Triangle) In 2289, the firm placed an ad in Spacelanes magazine seeking to liquidate some of them on Comstock so the firm could upgrade to larger-sized vessels. (FASA RPG module: Spacelanes: The Magazine of Interstellar Trade)

By the late 2280s, the Argon-class was considered a long-standing, rugged design. 285 MKIs (135 with Starfleet) and 527 MKIIs (147 with Starfleet) remained in service. 23 MKIs and 99 MKIIs had been reported stolen, destroyed, or missing. (FASA RPG module: Trader Captains and Merchant Princes)
