The Argus IV species is an unnamed planet-sized cosmozoan species.

History and specifics[]

This species propels itself through space by means of solar sails. When hatching, it unfurls from a planet-sized egg. From a central point, 12 limbs extend outward for at least 30,000 kilometers.

Spock theorized that Argus IV acted as an egg, and had been placed in orbit of Argus by a parent to provide warmth while its offspring incubated. The crew of the Federation starship USS Enterprise witnessed this offspring's birth and launched sensor probes to study it. (TOS comic: "It's a Living")
