Arlene Galway was a 23rd century Human woman. She served aboard the Federation starship USS Enterprise in the 2260s under the command of Captain James T. Kirk.
History[edit | edit source]
In 2267, Galway was Pavel Chekov's immediate superior during his post-engineering rotation in sensor control and analysis. She wrote a favorable evaluation of the young ensign, which Kirk reviewed as he weighed the possibility of assigning Chekov to the bridge crew. (TOS - Crucible novel: Provenance of Shadows)
Later that year, Galway was part of the landing party to Gamma Hydra IV that subsequently suffered from hyper-aging. She became hard of hearing, then was first to succumb and die from the disease. Kirk was shocked, as she was ten years younger than him, but Leonard McCoy explained that individual metabolism causes people to age at different rates. (TOS episode & Star Trek 7 novelization: The Deadly Years)
