Asarem Wadeen was a Bajoran woman. She was the third First Minister of Bajor following the Cardassian withdrawal after the Occupation.

Biography[]

Early life[]

Asarem was born in Lecelon, a settlement near Brintall. (DS9 - Mission Gamma novel: Twilight)

She married Krim Aldos, who was heavily involved in the resistance, but they divorced. (DS9 novel: Bajor: Fragments and Omens)

Asarem had an infant daughter called Eloija who died at just three weeks old when Asarem lived in the Karnoth resettlement camp. (DS9 novel: Original Sin)

Political office[]

Asarem ascended to the office after serving as Shakaar Edon's Second Minister throughout his five years in office. When Shakaar was assassinated just moments before the Republic of Bajor's formal induction into the United Federation of Planets, Asarem was hastily given the Bajoran oath of office; she demanded an immediate investigation, which found that Trill delegate Hiziki Gard had assassinated Shakaar upon discovering that Shakaar had been infested by a Bluegill parasite as part of a larger plan to infiltrate the Federation and wage war upon the Trill. Asarem's government cooperated with Federation personnel in neutralizing the threat, and Asarem later signed the papers inducting Bajor into the Federation on 29 September 2376. (DS9 - Mission Gamma novels: Cathedral, Lesser Evil)

Later that year, Asarem sought out the aid of her ex-husband, Krim Aldos, and appointed him Bajor's Federation Councillor when her first choice, Rava Mehwyn, died unexpectedly on Earth. This was a recess appointment that was unapproved by the Chamber of Ministers, Bajor's legislature; however, within a year, Krim had proven himself at the job and remained in office. (DS9 novel: Bajor: Fragments and Omens)

In 2380, Asarem recommended Jasmine Tey to Benjamin Sisko and Kasidy Yates after Rebecca Jae Sisko was kidnapped by an insane Ohalu religious extremist. (ST - Typhon Pact novel: Plagues of Night)

Asarem was reelected as First Minister in 2382. (ST - Typhon Pact novel: Raise the Dawn)

In 2385, First Minister Asarem opened a dialogue with Gell Kamemor, the Romulan praetor. (ST - The Fall novel: Revelation and Dust)
