Ascension (STO)

Ascension is the 27th "season" update to STO video game: Star Trek Online, released for PC on 13 September 2022. Ascension follows three previous season updates, Reflections from 14 September 2021, Shadow's Advance from 25 January 2022 and Stormfall from 10 May 2022, and continues the storyline based around the machinations of the Emperor of the Terran Empire, who is now revealed to be the god-like Wesley Crusher.

Wil Wheaton, who portrayed Wesley Crusher in Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Picard, joins the game's cast to provide the voice for Emperor Crusher.

This release was followed by Refractions, the 28th season, on 24 January 2023.

"Command the Farragut!", written by Senior Systems Designer Jeremy "BorticusCryptic" Randall and published by community rep Mike "Ambassador Kael" Fatum on 2 October 2022. This blog introduces the tier 6-rated Farragut Temporal Cruiser. The class is based on the USS Farragut of the alternate timeline seen in the SNW episode: "The Quality of Mercy".
"Federation Command Carrier Bundle!", written by Senior Systems Designer Jeremy Randall and published by community rep Mike Fatum on 21 October 2022. It introduces the Seneca-, Hiawatha-, Norway-, Valdres- and Valkyrie-class starships to STO.
"The Excelsior II!", written by Systems Designer Jonathan Berlache and published on 2 December 2022, introduces the Tier 6 Excelsior II-class intel heavy cruiser, represented by the USS Excelsior (NCC-42037).
"A Safe Galaxy" Lock Box!, written by Mike Fatum and published on 19 January 2023, introduces the contents of a lock box based on Star Trek: Picard season 2. These include the playable Confederation of Earth World Razer-class temporal juggernaut, obliviating phaser beam arrays, the Confederation combadge, Zhat Vash rifles, Watcher bridge officers and other items.

- 5 October livestream: presented by Mike Fatum and Jeremy Randall. Announcing Winter Event ship: Fek'Ihri Byr'jay-class escort. Upcoming ships: Terran Aquarius-class raider and Terran Hestia-class destroyer (February 2023), Akira- or Valdore-class strike wing escort (March), patrol escort (early 2023), and the USS Farragut cruiser from Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
- 12 October: same presenters, announcing T6 Valdres-class command strike wing escort, with a hangar equipped with the Valkyrie-class fighter squadron from the TNG video game: Invasion. An alternate skin for the Valdres class is the 24th century Norway-class. Also new is the Seneca-class command carrier, and its Hiawatha-class variant. The existing Excalibur- and Vesper-class ships receive a visual retouch.
- The livestream on 17 January 2023 showed the Gatherer as an example of the V'Ger-inspired Compiler-class science dreadnought, the reward for playing the anniversary event; and the CSS Brazos, a tier-6 World Razer-class command juggernaut from the Confederation of Earth timeline.
