- "The one you call "Tyler" was captured in battle at the binary stars. We harvested his DNA, reconstructed his conscious, and rebuilt his memory. We modified Voq into a shell that appears Human. We grafted his psyche into Tyler's, and in so doing, Voq has given his body and soul for our ideology."

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.
By the year 2256, Tyler had been assigned to the USS Yeager under Captain Steven Maranville. However, the Yeager was destroyed at the Battle of the Binary Stars and Tyler was taken prisoner by the Klingons. For seven months, Tyler was kept aboard a Klingon prison ship, where L'Rell tortured him. Tyler's DNA, memories, and conscious were then rebuilt and used to in Voq's choH'a' surgery. Voq then became Tyler and was able to infiltrate the USS Discovery. (DSC episode: "Choose Your Pain")
