Astral projection is the act of willfully traveling outside of one's own physical body. The concept of astral projection dates back thousands of years in the beliefs of the ancient Chinese as well as other human cultures.

Circa 2376, a method was devised on planet Vrinda for individuals to create astral projections of themselves, as well as to give those projections physical reality. This development lead to a wave of violence and fear, as such projections could enter places no physical being could, and then act on the physical universe. The device also had the effect of endangering the mental stability of its users. The technology used on Vrinda was ultimately destroyed by Carol Abramowitz. (SCE eBook: Age of Unreason)
