The Atlas class was a 23rd century Federation starship type, a prototype dreadnought class in Starfleet service around the 2260s and early 2270s decades. In the 2410s, this class revived as a tier 6-rated dreadnought cruiser for Federation Starfleet and non-Federation Khitomer Alliance members. Ships of the class were equipped with a dynamic power redistributor module. (STO website: Reckoning: Undiscovered Lock Box and Lobi Ship Stats)

History and technical specifications[]

23rd century[]

Starfleet built the USS Atlas, NCC registry number NCC-1900, around the 2260s as a prototype dreadnought to compete with the Romulan and Klingon empires. It was the counterpart of the Romulan Star Empire's Thrai-class warbird and the Klingon Empire's D9 class dreadnought. The Atlas class was equipped with a hangar bay that could deploy Class F shuttlecraft to aid in combat as fighters. In weaponry, these shuttles were equivalent to Romulan Kaleh- and Klingon DuQwl'-class fighters. The Atlas followed the aesthetics of the 2260s-era Constitution-class cruiser. It carried four warp nacelles, joined into a pair of housings. The nacelle pylons jutted out from an extended section at the aft end of the saucer section that terminated in impulse engines. The secondary hull, housing navigational deflector and shuttlebay, were suspended below by a neck section. (STO website: Reckoning: Undiscovered Lock Box and Lobi Ship Stats)

The overall saucer/engines/secondary hull arrangement was carried over by the command battlecruisers of the early 25th century. (STO - Delta Rising mission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")

25th century[]

In the aftermath of a new front of the Temporal Cold War opening in the 2410s, Starfleet revived and received ship classes from other centuries. This included reviving 23rd century ship classes like the Atlas. (STO - Yesterday's War mission: "The Once and Future Agent", STO - Reckoning mission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")

Specifically, the USS Atlas re-entered service during the conflict between the Khitomer Alliance and the Tzenkethi Coalition in the year 2410, brought on by the Tzenkethi Crusade against worlds of the Alpha Quadrant. (STO website: Reckoning: Undiscovered Lock Box and Lobi Ship Stats)

Typically for starships of the early 23rd century, an Atlas-class vessel was equipped with 23rd century phaser beam arrays and photon torpedo launchers. The weapons layout consisted of mark X-rated a photon torpedo launcher, two phaser dual cannons, a dual phaser beam bank and a twin phaser beam array in the fore; a twin phaser beam array, phaser turret, photon torpedo launcher in the aft. It was equipped with impulse engines, warp core and, like all 25th century Alliance starships, a quantum slipstream drive, enabling it to reach impulse, warp, transwarp and quantum slipstream velocities. Cloaking was not an innate ability but various mechanisms could be installed to serve as a cloaking device. The hull was modular and could be modified at shipyards interfaces operated by New Romulus Shipyards, Klingon Defense Force Order of Builders and Starfleet Shipyards Operations at Alliance facilities across the Milky Way Galaxy. (STO - House Reborn missions: "Explore the Flotilla", "The Hunt is On", "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")

Bridge officer stations allowed for a lieutenant commander pulling double duty as tactical officer and temporal operative, a lieutenant doubling as engineer and command division officer, an engineer holding the rank of commander, a lieutenant science officer and a lieutenant of any department. As a cruiser the Atlas was equipped with a cruiser command array. As an Alliance dreadnought cruiser, a battle-hardened ship benefitted from rapid repairs, enhanced plating, devastating weaponry, armored hull and the SIF shunt. The Atlas was the first ship equipped with the dynamic power redistribution module, which enabled boosting the structural integrity field and hull repair. The SIF shunt boosted these effects further.
