For other uses, see Aurora.

Aurora (NC-17740), also the SS Aurora, was a 23rd century civilian Federation class J cargo ship starship. (Shipyards reference: Federation Members)

Specifics[]

Aurora had room for at least five passengers. It had two warp nacelles connected to a superstructure via angled struts, and also had an impulse engine. It was not strong enough to pull free from a Starfleet tractor beam. (Fact Files Issue 25: "File 40 Card 29, SS Aurora")

The 21-meter-long space cruiser could be provisioned for a trip of dozens of parsecs for up to six crew and passengers. It was based on a Vulcan interplanetary spacecraft design. Similar sorts of vessels had been in service since the 22nd century. (ST reference: Star Trek Maps)

Aurora had longer nacelles than some other class J vessels, and also had observation ports. (Shipyards reference: Federation Members)

Service history and disposition[]

In 2269, Rota Sevrin stole Aurora. Sevrin and his followers of a philosophy known as One attempted to evade capture by the Federation starship USS Enterprise. As none of the followers were familiar with starship operations, the ship's warp engines soon overheated and blew up. The Enterprise rescued all ship's personnel with their transporter, but the ship was a total loss. (TOS episode & Star Trek 5 novelization: The Way to Eden)
