Avaranthi sh'Rothress, also known as Avaran, was an Andorian shen politician of the mid-22nd century. She was one of the first people to serve the office of Federation President after the United Federation of Planets was founded in 2161. Before being elected President, she represented her homeworld of Andoria on the Federation Council, where she engaged in a number of historically significant debates with President Haroun al-Rashid about the necessary qualifications and procedures for prospective Federation members. In 2380, one of the private shuttles of the President of the United Federation of Planets was named after her. (ST novel: Articles of the Federation)
Before the founding of the Federation, Avaran served as an aide to Andorian Ambassador (and later Foreign Minister of the Andorian Empire) Anlenthoris ch'Vhendreni. (ENT novel: The Good That Men Do) (ENT - The Romulan War novel: Beneath the Raptor's Wing) (ENT - The Romulan War novel: To Brave the Storm) From 2161 to 2164, Avaran served as the Andorian Ambassador to the United Federation of Planets. She succeeded Councilor Thoris on the Federation Council. (ENT - Rise of the Federation novel: Tower of Babel)
- The succession box follows a conjectural timeline wherein Avaran is the fourth president, serving two terms following Vanderbilt's single term, al-Rashid's two terms, and T'Maran's single term. Her image may have been the Andorian depicted in a painting that hung at the USS Enterprise-A dining room in "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country".
