B'rak was a Klingon politician who lived in the 23rd century, holding office as High Chancellor during the Praxis cataclysm of 2293.
History[]
Some time after 2267 and prior to 2293, B'rak had superseded Koval as Chancellor. For generations preceding B'rak's reign, the Klingons had been overmining the moon Praxis, and this came to a head in 2293 when the moon exploded, threatening all higher-order life on Qo'noS itself. B'rak shouldered the blame for the disaster and was promptly challenged and killed in ritual combat by Gorkon, son of Toq, who would soon initiate the Khitomer Accords with the United Federation of Planets. Background information[]
Gorkon's precursor as Chancellor and the circumstances of his ascent to office differ across works. Pocket Books novels indicate that Kesh was removed by a coup in 2287 or was replaced by Gorkon sometime after 2291, prior to the Praxis cataclysm of 2293. By contrast, the video game Klingon Academy had Lorak dying of natural causes in 2291, which triggered a civil war won by Gorkon, who was Lorak's chief-of-staff.
