Ba'ul are an advanced civilization indigenous to the planet Kaminar.

History and specifics[]

By the mid-2230s decade, the Ba'ul had developed warp drive and were led by their Ba'ul High Council. In the year 2239, the Ba'ul came into contact with the Federation starship USS Archimedes and were very hostile to the Federation. They made the Federation to promise that, in accordance to their non-interference directive, they would not interfere with the Ba'ul's affairs with the Kelpiens. Unbeknownst to the Ba'ul, Saru, the son of a Kelpien priest named Aradar, had sent a message to the Federation, and was taken aboard the Archimedes by Lieutenant Philippa Georgiou. (Short Treks episode: "The Brightest Star"; DSC episode: "The Sound of Thunder")

In the 2250s decade, Ba'ul were believed to be the planet's apex predators, known for staking out their prey before striking. (DSC novel: Fear Itself)

In the centuries following the Battle near Xahea, the Ba'ul, along with Kelpiens, reorganized their council into the Kaminar High Council and became part of the Kelpien and Ba'ul Alliance. Before The Burn, the Ba'ul and Kelpiens had joined the Federation. (DSC episodes: "Su'Kal", "Kobayashi Maru")

Prior to the reveal that they were a sapient species, the novel Fear Itself described the ba'ul as apex predators, which would lie in wait before striking out at their prey.
