Baatin al-Halak was a male Human in the 24th century. He was born on Deneb V, the son of Nu'man al-Halak, and the older brother of Samir al-Halak.

Halak's mother died after a long bout with Denebian fever when he was in or entering his early teens, after which his father hired a woman named Dalal to look after him and his brother during his lengthy "business" trips. His father died four years later, presumably killed after a failed deal with the Asfar Qatala crime syndicate, and Dalal became his sole caretaker. At some point, Dalal also came to care for a girl named Arava. The two eventually fell in love and married, and together had a son, Klar.

Following his father's death, Baatin likewise became involved with the Qatala. He also became involved with the rival Orion Syndicate, in an apparent effort to profit off of both organizations. When this was discovered, he was killed by Qatala head Mahfouz Qadir. Before his death, however, Baatin was able to secure forged documents for Samir, which disassociated him from any criminal activity, and enabled him to enroll at Starfleet Academy.

In 2336, Samir disavowed any of the debts Qatala leader Mahfouz Qadir had owed Baatin, and any right of revenge on his behalf. (ST - The Lost Era novel: Well of Souls)
