The Baikonur Cosmodrome (or Baykonur Kosmodrom) was a space launch facility in Kazakhstan in western Asia, operated by the Soviet Union, and later Russia. It was from this facility that Earth's first manned space flight was launched. Baikonur Cosmodrome remained an important center for spaceflight into the 24th century.

History and specifics[]

The SS Mariposa was launched from Baikonur on 27 November, 2123. (TNG episode: "Up the Long Ladder")

Research into the construction of the first warp five engine was reportedly conducted there in the early 22nd century, prior to Henry Archer's own breakthrough. (ST - Myriad Universes novel: A Less Perfect Union)

In 2267, Pavel Chekov thought that the bridge of the Goeg Domain's Starvessel 814 resembled the 1960s mission control center at Baikonur. (TOS novel: The Shocks of Adversity)

The SS Tsiolkovsky was constructed at Baikonur. (TNG episode: "The Naked Now")

In the 2350s, the winning design for the type-7 shuttlecraft came from Baikonur. (Adventures RPG module: The Command Division)

By the 2370s, while tourists tended to visit traditional landmarks, Starfleet officers were more likely to visit space history locations like Tranquility Park, Montana's Phoenix launch site, and the reconstruction of the historic Baikonur Cosmodrome. (Last Unicorn RPG module: Planets of the UFP)
