Bajoran provisional government

Bajoran Provisional Government logo

The Bajoran Provisional Government was the governing body of the Third Republic of Bajor following the end of the Cardassian Occupation of Bajor in 2369. It consists of a number of ministers, headed by a First Minister, who was elected every six years. Other key positions included Second Minister, Minister of State, and Minister of Public Works. (DS9 episode: "Duet", DS9 - Mission Gamma novel: Twilight, DS9 novel: Antimatter)

The main body of the Bajoran government has been called by various names on-screen, including the Board of Ministers, Chamber of Ministers and Council of Ministers. (DS9 episodes: "The Alternate", "The Homecoming", "Rapture", "In the Cards")

One of the first acts of the Provisional Government was to request aid from the United Federation of Planets. In exchange they gave occupancy of Terok Nor to Starfleet, who rechristened it Deep Space 9 and assigned command of it to Commander Benjamin Sisko. Major Kira Nerys was assigned to coordinate relations between the Federation and Provisional Government. (DS9 episode: "Emissary")

An agency of the Provisional Government was the Council on Ecological Controls which over saw the preservation of Bajor's ecology. (DS9 novel: Devil in the Sky)
