The Battle[]
The planet Axanar was at the far end of the Federation near the Klingon border. The planet was also a subject world of the Klingons. When the USS Constitution under Captain Garth of Izar visited Axanar, they came under attack by two D5 ships and one D7 ship. Despite being outnumbered, Garth was able to defeat the Klingon ships. Aftermath[]
The Federation, despite the victory, feared that the excursion into Klingon-controlled space would start a war. Therefore, the Federation decided to open negotiations with the Klingons. The Klingons, under the leadership of Chancellor Orak, saw the Humans' negotiations as a way to distract the Federation from the Empire's true motives. Both sides agreed to a conference to discuss Axanar. (ST reference: Federation: The First 150 Years)
