The Battle of Cunaxa was a conflict fought on Earth in 401 BC. During it, the Persian commander Cyrus the Younger was killed. The events of the battle were recorded by Xenophon in Anabasis.

In 2269, Captain James T. Kirk, while reading Anabasis, had just reached the point in the battle of Cunaxa when he was interrupted by Lieutenant Rogers. (TOS novel: Spock, Messiah!)
