The Battle of Prantares was a space engagement that was fought between forces of United Earth and Romulan Star Empire.
History[]
It was data gathered from Operation Calypso which detected Romulan fleet movement to the Orion Colonies that allowed a Starfleet taskforce to successfully engage the Romulan forces. (FASA RPG module: Star Fleet Intelligence Manual: Agent's Orientation Sourcebook) Two squadrons of Romulan cruisers that were on their way to Rigel were met at Prantares by a United Earth Starfleet force of approximately equal size, with around three dozen vessels participating in the engagement overall.
The Starfleet task force was led by Jonathan Archer and the Enterprise (NX-01). The battle itself only lasted 36 minutes and the conflict ended in a tactical draw and whilst the Starfleet suffered heavy casualities with only a handful of vessels remaining intact, they succeeded in turning the Romulan forces back. - FASA RPG material states that the conflict was between the Federation and the Romulan Star Empire; but canon shows that during the Romulan War, there was no Federation. ENT novel: To Brave the Storm describes it as a battle fought between United Earth and Romulan Star Empire. There may be a connection with the Prantares Ribbon award.
