The Battle of Trafalgar was a battle that took place in 1805 on Earth between the British Royal Navy (led by Vice Admiral Horatio Nelson aboard the HMS Victory) and French and Spanish ships. A member of Jean-Luc Picard's family (possibly descended from Javier Maribona-Picard) served in this armed conflict. A painting hung depicting him, during the captain's Nexus vision. (TNG movie: Star Trek Generations)

Prior to the battle Battle of Cardassia, Benjamin Sisko remembered Nelson's signal to his fleet on the eve of battle as "we expect every man to do his duty". He considered it an effective but simple exhortation. (DS9 novelization: What You Leave Behind)

Nelson's signal was "England expects that every man will do his dutyWP".
