In space station classification, a battle station was a 25th century Khitomer Alliance classification of space stations by purpose. Specifically, a battle station was heavily armed and could temporarily be moved into a combat theater in space. (STO - Task Force Operation mission: "Counterpoint")
History and specifics[]
Terok Nor firing on Deep Space 9.
In the year 2409, Admiral Leeta used the Imperial Terran Terok Nor space station as a Terran battle station when she pulled it through a portal from the mirror universe into the B'hava'el star system in the primary universe to combat its prime counterpart, Deep Space 9, directly. Commander Sarish Minna of DS9 was shocked when the Imperial Starfleet forces attacking the Federation space station were reinforced by the Terran battle station. The Terran forces were defeated and pushed back into their universe by an Allied task force. (STO - Task Force Operation mission: "Counterpoint")
In 2410, following the end of the Iconian War, Admiral Leeta pulled three Imperial battle stations into the Badlands of the primary universe. Taking up position in the Badlands Battlezone, the three stations attempted to hold the contested area from Khitomer Alliance forces. The Alliance, coordinated by Commander Mesi Achebe of the USS Malinche, defeated Empok Nor, Klingon Alliance Base and Terran Empire Base and pushed them back into their native realm. However, the Terrans returned for repeated invasion attempts. (STO website: New Dawn: Badlands Battlezone)
Sometime after, during the Tzenkethi Crusade against the "Drantzuli", the Tzenkethi Coalition deployed Tzenkethi battlestations in combat with Khitomer Alliance forces. A trio of Tzenkethi battlestation weapon platforms were deployed in the Eta Serpentis system in an effort to destroy an inhabited planet Eta Serpentis II. A Klingon fleet starbase and a task force led by Klingon Defense Force General Rodek, son of Noggra provided the last line of defense. (STO - Task Force Operation mission: "Tzenkethi Front")
During a concentrated assault on Bajor led by the Female Founder disguised as Admiral Aarn Tzen-Tarrak, the Tzenkethi fleet was reinforced by a massive battle station that appeared in the planet's orbit and near Deep Space 9. DS9 was heavily damaged in battle but the Alliance fleet, led by Starfleet Captain James Kurland and KDF General Martok, subdued the Tzenkethi space station, boarded it and arrested Admiral "Tzen-Tarrak". Following a sudden invasion by the Hur'q through the Bajoran wormhole, the admiral was released and the battle station reactivated. The Tzenkethi and Alliance fleets, reinforced by the Dominion, joined forces against the Hur'q. (STO - New Frontiers mission: "Scylla and Charybdis")
During the battle, the Tzen-Tarrak's battle station was reactivated by joint KDF, Starfleet and Jem'Hadar Vanguard Fleet during the battle. (STO - Engineered for War mission: "Turn the Tide")
Subtypes[]
Iconian Dyson sphere[]
The Jenolan Dyson Sphere before its jump.
Following the fall of Ancient Iconia, the Iconians commissioned the Solanae to construct the Solanae Dyson Sphere. This Dyson sphere was able to jump across space by using Omega molecules as a power source. In 2409, the abandoned Solanae Dyson Sphere was contested between the Voth and Dyson Joint Command. Following the reactivation of an Iconian gateway in that sphere, the Jenolan Dyson Sphere jumped from local space into the Delta Quadrant. (STO - Solanae Dyson Sphere mission: "A Step Between Stars")
In 2410, the Andromeda Dyson Sphere, filled with countless Herald starships, jumped from the Andromeda Galaxy to the Iconia star system, commencing the Iconian War with the Khitomer Alliance. (STO - The Iconian War mission: "Uneasy Allies")
Terran battle station[]
Terok Nor in the primary universe.
In the mirror universe, Terran battle stations consisted of different starbase and space station types reconfigured for battle. When the Nor-class station Terok Nor appeared near Deep Space 9 in the primary universe in [409, Commander Sarish Minna identified as a Terran battle station on the spot. The station was supported by numerous 25th and 29th century Terran starships, including the ISS Paradox. (STO - Task Force Operation mission: "Counterpoint")
During an invasion in the Badlands in 2410, the Terran Empire deployed three battle stations - the Nor-class Empok Nor, the Klingon fleet starbase Klingon Alliance Base and the Terran fleet starbase Terran Empire Base. They were repelled by a Khitomer Alliance fleet coordinated by Commander Mesi Achebe of the USS Malinche. (STO - New Dawn mission: "Battlezone")
Tzenkethi battle station[]
The Tzenkethi battle station, also known as battlestation or weapon platform, was a 2410s-era Tzenkethi space station deployed during the Tzenkethi Crusade against the "Drantzuli" for the purpose of sterilizing planets with protomatter bombs and missiles. A trio of such stations targeted Eta Serpentis II in 2410. (STO - Task Force Operation mission: "Tzenkethi Front")
A Tzenkethi battle station targeted Bajor in the B'hava'el system. (STO - New Frontiers mission: "Scylla and Charybdis")
