Beer is an alcoholic beverage produced by fermented starches. It is one of the oldest, alcoholic beverages known on Earth, having been brewed for thousands of years. It is most often made from malted barley, hops, yeast and water, and is usually carbonated.
Sumerians invented beer in 4500 BC, along with agriculture and the written language. (ST - Destiny novel: Lost Souls)
