Lieutenant Beggs Hansen was a 23rd century Human man, a Starfleet officer who served as relief helmsman aboard the USS Enterprise in the 2260s under the command of Captain James T. Kirk.
Biography[]
In 2267, Hansen was on duty when the Enterprise traversed an ion storm. He reported force five vibrations when the ship's log apparently recorded the death of records officer Ben Finney. He remained aboard as part of the command crew when Kirk's court martial reconvened aboard the bridge, and he piloted the ship back to a stable orbit following a loss of power orchestrated by Finney. (TOS episode: "Court Martial")
Hansen was in operational command when Spock transmitted false orders from Starbase 11 for the Enterprise to depart on a top secret assignment and locked navigation. Spock returned command to Hansen when surrendering for mutiny, and he was at the helm when the ship arrived at Talos IV. (TOS episode: "The Menagerie")
Kirk allowed Perithees Ambassador Sork to take Hansen's place at the helm briefly, just prior to the ship's discovery of a mysterious unmanned vessel. Hansen retook control for the Enterprise's approach and investigation. When the vessel suddenly took off, with a landing party and Sork aboard, Hansen brought the ship to outer orbit of Romulan-controlled Tekton, operating a mass-nullifier to mask their presence. (TOS comic: "The Perithees Alliance")
In 2268, Hansen manned the helm with John Stiles at navigation and Ensign Jana Haines at the sciences station during the ship's silent-run approach to the Libros system and the sensor-scrambled landing of Galileo on Usilde. (TOS - Legacies novel: Best Defense)
- Hansen's first name was provided in the novel, a reference to the actor who portrayed him, Hagan Beggs. His last name was spelled Hanson in the comic.
In an alternate reality, aboard the British Empire's HMS Enterprise, Captain Nyota Uhura had her lover James T. Kirk skinned alive, and Hansen and Rizzo saw Kirk die. Hansen and Rizzo were suprised to see a mirror universe James T. Kirk board the ship. (TOS - New Visions comic: "The Mirror, Cracked")
