Bendes was a 23rd century Romulan man, a diplomatic envoy for the Romulan Star Empire.

Biography[]

Bendes met Captain James T. Kirk prior to 2269, and were reunited when both represented their governments at the Pomplance conference of 2269. When dosed with a truth drug, Bendes unintentionally confessed that any Romulan claim of mining rights in the WWB7 system was without proof. After learning he'd been drugged, he went so far as to say public knowledge of this chemical would seriously harm diplomatic efforts, ruin all business efforts, and could collapse civilization. When Klingon Ambassador Koft raised the subject of executing the drug's inventor, Coriolanus Quince, Bendes suggested that the Romulans should take care of him. (TOS audiobook: In Vino Veritas)
