The Benthans were a warp-capable humanoid species native to the planet Benthos, the fourth planet of the Benthan system located in the Milky Way Galaxy's Delta Quadrant.
They were first encountered by the Federation in the year 2374 and by the early 25th century had become members of the Delta Alliance. (VOY episode: "Vis à Vis", STO video game: Delta Rising)
- "Vis à Vis" is unclear which of two humanoid aliens shown (the other, Daelen, being a female resembling a Romulan) is a Benthan. Star Trek Online models its Benthans after Steth rather than Daelen.
History[]
Federation forces made first contact with the Benthans in 2374 when Lieutenant Tom Paris, conn officer of the Starfleet starship USS Voyager, was attacked by two ships of the Benthan Guard in the Kotaba Expanse. Led by Commander Avek, the Benthans were attempting to retrieve a starship with coaxial warp drive from a genome thief. (VOY episode: "Vis à Vis")
When the Alpha Quadrant Alliance returned to the Delta Quadrant in 2410, the Benthans were engaged in fighting with the Kazon, Malon, Vaadwaur, Hirogen, and Hazari. They were later convinced by Neelix, under orders from Rear Admiral Tuvok, to become founding members of the Delta Alliance.
