The Ber'taa-class was an unsuccessful class of advanced heavy cruisers used briefly by the Klingon Defense Force.
As of 2287, the vessel was a prototype vessel being developed by Klingon engineers. Starfleet Intelligence had acquired data on the cruiser and a simulation of it was made available for testing by Starfleet cadets such as David Forester and his command crew. The Ber'taa was apparently designed to outmatch the Constitution and D7-class heavy cruisers that dominated starship operations in the late 23rd century, and was at least a serious rival to the brand-new Excelsior-class ships just entering service, if not being superior to them in combat potential.
