Berena was a type of dessert bread favored by Klingons.
History and specifics[]
Cyrano Jones acquired a number of genuine Klingon cookbooks that included a recipe for berena. He heard that its sweetener was derived from a succulent desert plant from the Klingon homeworld.
In the 2260s decade, Nurse Christine Chapel came upon one of the books and adapted the meal for the USS Enterprise's food processors. Similar to gingerbread, it was formulated using butter, sugar, egg, molasses, water, flour, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, salt, baking powder, and baking soda. (TOS reference: Official Cooking Manual)
