A berserker was a person who fought as if frenzied.

In the year 2269, Spock stated that the Klingons, while extremely warlike, were not berserkers, and therefore wouldn't have started the Federation-Klingon War of 2269 unless certain that they had superior firepower over the Federation. (TOS novel: Spock Must Die!)
