The system was the site of a planet where a Zalkatian archeological dig begun in 2375. It was at this site that the first records were found indicating the four Malkus Artifacts, when combined, would constitute an even more powerful weapon than they did separately. (TNG - The Brave and the Bold, Book Two novella: The Final Artifact)
In 2376, the Federation operated a starbase in the vicinity of the system, and several Starfleet ships conducted surveys of the area. They came under attack when Locutus of Borg and his flotilla invaded the system. (ST video game: Armada mission: "Assimilation")
In 2381, Beta Lankal was attacked by the Borg. (ST - Destiny novel: Lost Souls)
