Beta Niobe sector

The Beta Niobe sector is a sector of space in the galaxy's Alpha or Beta Quadrants, a location on star charts used by the Federation in the 23rd century. It was named for the star Beta Niobe.

The Beta Niobe sector was located not far from the Federation-Klingon Neutral Zone. (TOS novel: No Time Like the Past) It was in or not far from the Gamma Cygnet region of the patrol sector of the Federation starship USS Enterprise. (TOS comic: "This Tree Bears Bitter Fruit")

One star chart placed its named star in the general vicinity of the outermost borders of the First Federation in treaty boundary quadrant 3. (ST reference: Star Trek Maps) The explored galaxy star chart plotted it in the general vicinity of Ariannus, Arret and Beta Lyrae. (TOS movie: The Undiscovered Country)

Another star chart showed it to be in the general vicinity of Asronal, Fect, Hannlaw, Stradania and the New Berlin system. (ST video game: Fleet Command)

History[]

In the year 2269, the Federation starship USS Enterprise was present in the sector when the sector's star Beta Niobe became a supernova. (TOS episode & Star Trek 4 novelization: All Our Yesterdays)

Radiation from the supernova blast threatened many systems in this sector for years to follow. Starfleet worked to deflect the path of the radiation from inhabited systems, a project involving many starships. The Verzhik system was particularly badly affected in 2279.
