The Beta Reticuli star system is a star system, located somewhere in the space of the galaxy's Alpha or Beta Quadrants, that hosts two inhabited planets with a population of one billion each.
History and specifics[]
In the year 2268, around stardate 4575.9, Beta Reticuli was targeted by a fleet of linked units that sought to age its primary star with chronometric radiation to enter the supernova phase of its life so that they could harvest its stellar matter in order to refuel themselves and increase their numbers.
The crew of the Federation starship USS Enterprise intervened before the units could succeed, disrupting their attempt by transmitting a jamming signal on the frequency on which the units communicated with each other. This disrupted their link with each other and made them shut down. Eventually Beta Reticuli's star would draw in the units and completely destroy them. (TOS - New Visions comic: "Swarm")
In 2270, the Enterprise was traveling near Beta Reticuli when the ship's emergency systems began acting up. A few hours later, pan-dimensional entity Aaruu telepathically isolated ship's personnel and began conducting psychological experiments on them.
