Beta VI was a planet, the sixth planet of the Beta 6 system. This world was the site of a Federation colony. (ST reference: Star Trek Maps)
History[]
Beta VI was originally the site of an Orion Colony, but later became home to Human and Andorian settlers. (FASA RPG module: The Orions: Book of Common Knowledge) The Humans and Andorians established the Beta 6 Colony in 2195. (ST reference: Star Trek Maps)
- The Star Trek Maps timeline is normally difficult to align to the standard timeline, though this date of 2195 agrees well with the following stardate, which is estimated to be around 2201.
On reference stardate 1/2701.14, the Humans and Andorians accused the Orions of "chronic criminal activity and corruption" and demanded the Federation remove them. In response, the Botchok Planetary Congress insisted that a Federation High Commission be appointed to investigate; however, the High Commission supported the Federation colonists' case. The incensed Orions left without paying their bills, draining 21.32 million credits from Beta VI's economy, as well as the costs of relocating them in the first place. (FASA RPG module: The Orions: Book of Common Knowledge)
In 2267, the USS Enterprise was meant to deliver supplies to the colony, but it was delayed by Trelane (TOS episode: "The Squire of Gothos"). By the 2270s, the Beta 6 Colony was flourishing, with a population of 87,000, mostly Humans and Andorians. It had only class 1 facilities for starship support, however. (ST reference: Star Trek Maps)
At some point in the 24th century, Beta VI suffered a civil war. Elias Vaughn, and a team he was part of, witnessed eleven thousand men beat each other to death with rocks and clubs in a single afternoon but they were unable to prevent the catastrophe. (DS9 - Avatar novel: Avatar, Book One, TNG novel: The Battle of Betazed)
In 2376, it was listed as the host location of a current or past marathon. (ST - New Worlds, New Civilizations short story: "The Footfalls of Tradition")
Beta VI was still listed as a Federation member in 2378. (ST reference: Star Charts)
