Bio-organic regenerators were a type of nanotechnology developed by scientists on an unidentified planet to cure a deadly disease which had struck the inhabitants. The probes were injected into a test subject's circulatory system, destroying the virus and healing her body, but went on to transform her into a cyborg, as they were programmed to not just make her healthy, but to make her perfect. When the test subject was threatened with destruction, she used the probes to escape and assimilate her enemies. She quickly led her drones in assimilating the planet and set to work to spread to the rest of the galaxy. (Strange New Worlds VI short story: "The Beginning")
