Bioneural gel pack

A bioneural gel pack.

A bioneural gel pack is a form of computer technology used by Starfleet which employs bio-neural circuitry to increase computing speed and efficiency. It was used in Starfleet's newer classes of starships starting in the 2370s, including the Intrepid and Sovereign-classes.

Due to the Federation's relative inexperience with biotechnology, it obtained its bioneural gel from the Kropaslin. The team that designed the gel used on the Sovereign class was led by Doctor Delasat Vantimor. (SCE eBook: The Future Begins)

By 2374, the older class-2 probes had been refitted to use them. (TNG - The Q Continuum novel: Q-Space)

Bioneural gel packs were also used in Starbase Deep Space 10, constructed in 2376. (CoE eBook: Troubleshooting)
