Black Annis

An apparition of Black Annis.

Black Annis was a character in Scottish folklore, a magical witch-hag that haunted people and ate children.

History and specifics[]

Black Annis was one of several frightening monsters that Montgomery Scott learned about in childhood.

Giant phaser crush

A security guard crushed by his giant phaser.

In the year 2273, a manifestation of Black Annis was drawn from Scott's memories to attack him and others aboard the starship USS Enterprise. When a security guard fired at her, she seemed to use her magic to make his phaser grow to mammoth proportions and smother him. She levitated Captain James T. Kirk into a wall. She became insubstantial when Spock reached out to try his Vulcan nerve pinch, then slammed him to the ground before fading away.

The manifestation was a subconscious creation of Andrea Manning, though she had no idea that she had the capability of making fictional characters come to life. (TOS comic: "... Like a Woman Scorned!")
