Blaine

Captain Blaine in 2285

Captain Blaine was a Terran officer of the Imperial Starfleet of the Terran Empire during the late 23rd century. He was a personal enemy of Captain James T. Kirk.

History[]

In 2285, he met the James T. Kirk of the primary universe, who was posing as his mirror universe counterpart, in a bar and the two got into a fight, with Kirk gaining the upper hand. However, instead of killing Blaine, Kirk spared his life, telling him that he wasn't worth killing.

Later, he was in command of an Imperial Miranda-class starship with the registry NCC-1877 that was part of Kirk's "invasion fleet" to conquer the Federation. Later, when Grand admiral Stephen Turner informed the fleet that Kirk was a traitor, Blaine took command of the assault on the USS Excelsior, but was unable to stop Kirk's escape. (TOS - The Mirror Universe Saga comics: "Masquerade!", "Behind Enemy Lines!")

For his failure to stop Kirk, he was then brought before the Empire's Council, expecting to be sentenced to death. The Admiralty, recognizing that hatred was a very strong motivator, gave him command of their newest starship, the ISS Excelsior, and an attack fleet and tasked him with killing Kirk. When one of his ships, the ISS Nixon, located Kirk, Blaine tasked its captain, Trask, with leading the first assault and when that assault failed Blaine ignored Trask's warning and joined the battle himself. However, since the ISS Excelsior was only operating on one tenth of her power she was easily overcome. (TOS - The Mirror Universe Saga comic: "The Beginning of the End...")
