A blast shield was a 24th century Federation Starfleet protective forcefield technology used on shuttlecraft. (LD episode: "Envoys")

History[]

In the 23rd century, Class F shuttlecraft could deploy physical blast shudders over its front windows. (TOS episode: "Metamorphosis")

In the 2380s decade, the Yosemite was a new Type-6A shuttlecraft. The Yosemite was equipped with a blast shield. When the shield deployed, it appeared as a light blue film across the vessel's windows, appearing in a motion from top to bottom.

In the year 2380, the Yosemite was delivered to the USS Cerritos. It was assigned to Ensign Brad Boimler for a mission to ferry the Klingon diplomatic representative General K'orin. Boimler was accompanied by Ensign Beckett Mariner, who identified their mode of transport as "the new shuttle with the blast shield." Mariner found the cockpit controls to deploy and retract the blast shield several times in short order. (LD episode: "Envoys")

At some point after the Pandronian drills held aboard the Cerritos in 2381, the rogue artificial intelligence Badgey trapped personnel and visitors of the Cerritos aboard the California-class starship's holodeck. To learn Badgey's so-called lessons and escape, the personnel conducted various simulations. One scenario involved overseeing the quick arrival and departure of Starfleet shuttlecraft in the shuttlebay. These craft included Type-6, Type-6A and Type-9 shuttles. (LD video game: The Badgey Directive)
