"Boarding Party" is the fifth of six licensed short stories published by FASA in Stardate Magazine, this one in vol.1 #7. It was written by Jefferson P. Swycaffer, who also wrote "Coronation Presumptuous". In this story, Starfleet admirals participated in a war game exercise with the Starfleet Marine Corps.

Summary[]

Grand Admiral Jennifer de la Noue and Admiral Robert Morgan conducted a combat field drill aboard the Phillidon, with their forces divided by sex. Wearing full body armor and helmets, Morgan, Commodore Athalos Steldan and an all-male marine regiment removed hull plating, breeched the outer bulkhead and made their way through corridors, engaging in several firefights along the way. Defending the bridge, de la Noue resisted a suggestion to fight back using the ship's artificial gravity, as that would also hinder defensive forces.

Unexpected crossfire caught Steldan dead center in the chest, removing him from combat. Morgan's team penetrated the last defenses outside the bridge. Morgan entered and leveled his weapon at the unarmed grand admiral. But subgeneral Linda Waters suddenly appeared from behind a bulkhead and shot Morgan in the back. De la Noue signaled all-clear, and the teams separated for debriefing.
