"They were the only species to offer true resistance to the Borg."
Seven of Nine, 2374[src]

The Borg-Undine War was a highly destructive conflict between the Borg Collective and Undine that lasted several months, starting in 2373 and ending in 2374.

Background[]

The conflict was started by the Borg, who invaded Fluidic space, the home dimension of the Undine. Due to the Undine's biological integrity, the Undine were impervious to Borg assimilation technology. After destroying the invaders, the Undine launched a counter-invasion of the Milky Way Galaxy with the ultimate goal of purging it of all "inferior" lifeforms.

Within the following months the Undine destroyed hundreds of Borg worlds, killed millions of Borg drones, and destroyed numerous Borg ships. On the verge of total defeat, the Borg were saved by the intervention of the USS Voyager after Captain Kathryn Janeway made the determination that the Undine were the greater threat. Working together, the Borg and Federation crew developed nanite weapons: photon torpedoes that were specially modified to deliver the nanites, turning them into bio-molecular weapons. The weapons proved to be extremely effective against the Undine, stopping the invasion and forcing them to withdraw back to fluidic space. (VOY episodes: "Scorpion", "Prey")
