__NOTOC__
The '''Borg Fusion Cubes''' are created from cubes constructed by the Borg Advanced Shipyard, and with research conducted by the Borg Technology assimilator. The cubes can be either unarmoured or have armour plate. Eight of each type merge to form either a Fusion Cube, formed from unarmoured cubes, or eight Tactical cubes, which are larger cubes that are armoured, form into a Tactical Fusion Cube. These can use three enemy Special weapons, if it is the unarmoured fusion cube, can use four Special weapons, if it is the armoured Tactical Fusion Cube. It was a Fusion cube that came out of a Borg Transwarp hub, startling Starfleet Command. ([[Star Trek: Armada II]])

The Borg fusion cube was a type of starship operated by the Borg Collective in the late 24th century. Fusion cubes were made by fusing together eight standard Borg cubes. The Borg could similarly fuse eight tactical cubes together to create a Tactical fusion cube.

To build either type of fusion cube the Borg had first to have built a fusion hub within the local area of space they were operating. Once the hub was developed the Collective could then select eight cubes which would place themselves in a careful formation and fuse.

Fusion cubes had a crew of thousands, were heavily armed and had powerful shields, making them one of the most powerful vessels in the Borg fleet. A fusion cube could effortlessly repel attacks from even the most formidable opponents - easily outgunning and overpowering even a starbase.

In addition to standard beam and torpedo weaponry fusion cubes could also be adapted to operate the Borg holding beam for easy assimilation of starships and facilities and the technology assimilation beam which could target unique technologies on opponent vessels and adapt them for use by the cube. If the Borg had a technology assimilator in the area fusion cubes could also implement assimilated technologies analysed by the Borg at that facility.

A fusion cube was first encountered by Federation Starfleet on stardate 54612.7 in 2377. An armada of Starfleet vessels was searching the Regula Badlands for a transwarp portal the Borg had built to stage an offensive on the Alpha Quadrant. When the Starfleet forces located the portal a single fusion cube emerged. Fortunately the Starfleet forces were strong enough to hold off the cube allowing the planned operation to capture the portal to go ahead. (TNG video game: Armada II)

Background

A fusion cube only appeared in one mission of Armada II as a given map unit - The computer controlled Borg were otherwise incapable of fusing their own cubes. Players playing as the Borg could make fusion cubes in the final mission in the game and in "instant action" games, which provided a powerful (if expensive and time consuming) weapon for the player.

Using the technology assimilator fusion cubes could assimilate up to three "special weapons".

Whereas normal cubes in Armada and Armada II were not as formidable as cubes in The Next Generation and Voyager- a couple of capital ships from any faction were a match for one- fusion cubes were much closer in power, able to single-handedly challenge enemy fleets.
