The Borg type 03[6] was a Borg starship class, an assimilator[1] and tier 6 command juggernaut[4] in Borg Collective service by the 2360s[6] decade. (TNG episode: "Descent", ST video game: Armada II, STO website: Legacy: Command the Borg Juggernaut!)

Specifications[]

Borg Type 03 was the Starfleet designation for a large, asymmetrical starship type first encountered by the USS Enterprise-D in the year 2368. It dwarfed the 600 meter long Galaxy-class class vessel and could outrun it by entering transwarp corridors. (TNG episode: "Descent")

Borg assimilator 2

Borg assimilator in 2377.

In the 2370s decade, smaller versions of the Borg Type 03, flying in reverse compared to the renegade vessel encountered prior. They were deployed to quickly overwhelm other vessels and assimilate them through the auto-assimilator beam that absorbed the crew and left the targeted vessel derelict. (ST video game: Armada II)

In the 2410s, the tier 6-rated liberated Borg command juggernaut was a ship operated by the Khitomer Alliance. Standard equipment was rated Mark X. This included a shield array, deflector array, impulse engines, and a matter-antimatter warp core. The disruptive topological matrix was a special subsystem that would cause plasma fires to erupt on a target. Default weapon systems were also plasma-based, and included four forward-facing assimilated plasma beam arrays and a plasma torpedo launcher. Aft weapons consisted of three additional plasma beam arrays. Transwarp and quantum slipstream drive were standard equipment on Alliance starships, enabling instantaneous travel to all four quadrants of the galaxy. (STO - Legacy mission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")

Ships of this time operated by the Borg Cooperative were fitted with an omni-directional plasma beam array, a plasma turret, and a plasma torpedo launcher. It could deploy assimilated tractor beams, fire tachyon beams, and liberate disabled Borg Collective ships through the "Borg conversion" viral beam array. Ships of this type were rated as dreadnoughts. (STO - Friends in Unlikely Places mission: "Jarleth System Patrol")

Service history[]

In the 2360s decade, the Federation encountered a Borg cube in the Beta Quadrant during first contact. (TNG episode: "Q Who")

Scout 608[9] was a Borg scout ship sent to the Argolis Cluster and became the second type of Borg ship met by Starfleet. (TNG episode: "I, Borg")

Borg Type 03 was the third type of Borg vessel met by the Federation. In the year 2368, this ship had been separated from the Borg Collective after Hugh had "infected" the Borg drones with individuality. The rogue Soong-type android Lore assumed control of these Borg as "the One". Lore was deactivated by his brother Data, an officer of the USS Enterprise-D. (TNG episode: "Descent")

Hugh and his people remained disconnected from the Collective and formed the Liberated. (TNG novel: Greater Than the Sum)

In 2374, a schematic of a Type 03 was displayed when the drone Seven of Nine discussed the deployment of a multi-kinetic neutronium mine, a weapon of mass destruction, with the crew of USS Voyager. At the time, the Collective was involved in a war with Species 8472 following an incursion into fluidic space. (VOY episode: "Scorpion, Part II")

In 2377, conflict between the Collective and Species 8472 renewed. The Collective deployed Borg assimilators that now resembled the larger Borg Type 03. (ST video game: Armada II)

This design differed from the Borg assimilators deployed against Alpha and Beta Quadrant powers in 2376 had favored a symmetric, more compact hull. (ST video game: Armada)

In 2380, the Borg Type 03 Liberator operated with a mixed crew of xB under Hugh's command. (TNG novel: Greater Than the Sum)

Liberator

The Liberator.

By the year 2410, the Liberator was the Borg Cooperative flagship. At the time, the Cooperative actively pursued the liberation of drones from the Collective. The "Borg conversion" viral beam array was tested on disabled Borg cubes, Borg spheres and Borg probes in the Jarleth system. (STO - Friends in Unlikely Places mission: "Jarleth System Patrol")

From 2411 onward, the Khitomer Alliance acquired ships of this type and deployed them as the liberated Borg command juggernaut. (STO website: Legacy: Command the Borg Juggernaut!)
