The Bormamis Theory was scientific theory on telepathy,

The theory stated that the brains of telepathic individuals tapped into a universal psionic field. Leonard McCoy considered the theory unproven and one which could not explain why some Human individuals could be telepaths. (TOS novel: A Choice of Catastrophes)

The authors named the theory as a homage to Andre BormanisMA, the science consultant for TNG, DS9, VOY and ENT. Bormanis also authored the Science Logs.
