Boyd was a 23rd century Human man, a Starfleet officer assigned to the security division of the Federation starship USS Enterprise under the command of Captain James T. Kirk.
Biography[]
In the year 2270 on the world-ship Archernar IV, Boyd was assigned to a landing party led by Doctor Leonard McCoy to search for a botanical, a potential cure for Blake's disease. The team climbed down from the Archernar airlock station to the jungle to begin a two-mile hike. (TOS - Mission's End comic: "Issue 2")
Boyd and the rest of the team were captured by Crawlers. Boyd was worried about getting killed. Despite McCoy's reassurances, he lamented about people making mortal errors when they're looking forward to returning home, as the Enterprise's five-year mission was nearly over. He also shared his concerns about the death rate of redshirts. (TOS - Mission's End comic: "Issue 3")
When the group encountered wounded Crawlers, Boyd's bad attitude worsened. He complained that McCoy didn't have a viable strategy and started to return to the base, but McCoy ordered him to help, not to abandon his post. McCoy also assessed him as having entomophobia. (TOS - Mission's End comic: "Issue 4")
Later, after being rescued by Kirk and the Columbus, he said he never doubted they'd be all right. (TOS - Mission's End comic: "Issue 5")
- Despite a lack of stripes on his tunic, his rank was cited in dialogue.
