Y4-Brandon

Brandon

Brandon was a Viden man, a businessman in the 23rd century who worked for Trilateral Broadcasting Company.

Brandon assisted President Ted Tinker and later replaced him as head of the company.

History and specifics[]

In 2269, Brandon and Tinker were present when a security guard killed an actor who was attempting to flee from the studio. The actor had played Cam on the popular television show Welcome to the Family. The death was also witnessed by Captain James T. Kirk.

Tinker responded to the negative publicity and actions from competitor Viden Broadcasting by coercing Kirk into producing a variety show television special. While Kirk was auditioning Hikaru Sulu, Nyota Uhura, Christine Chapel, Leonard McCoy and Spock, Brandon reviewed Kirk's budget for the show. He alerted Tinker to its high production costs, which spurred Tinker to renegotiate with Kirk to produce a reality show about daily life aboard the USS Enterprise. To ensure compliance, hidden cameras were attached to explosives. But ratings plummeted when two weeks passed without any interesting activity. After Montgomery Scott overrode the camera's transmitters and deactivated the bombs, Brandon became the new president of Trilateral Broadcasting.

Brandon and his new assistant considered a first-draft pilot script for a proposed five-year television series called Starfleet Academy, written by Scott Tipton, which Trilateral could produce affordably on the studio lot. It would compete with Viden Broadcasting's upcoming "derivative" series Eden 3. (TOS - Year Four comic: "Issue 4")

This character might may been named in honor of 1980s NBC president Brandon Tartikoff, who worked alongside NBC chairman Grant Tinker.
