Brass is a metal alloy substance, a combination of copper and zinc. The formulation of brass is considered an important milestone in technological advancement in humanoid cultures. Because of the tendency of brass to be used for insignia, rank insignia and decorations on uniforms of military and service organizations such as navies, there are slang terms in Human languages that tend to refer to high-ranking title-holders as "brass", "the brass", "top brass" and "brass hats".

History and specifics[]

Joaquin Weiss wore a large brass belt buckle shaped like the head of a snarling grizzly bear. (TOS - The Eugenics Wars novel: The Rise and Fall of Khan Noonien Singh, Volume 2)

In 2269, during the battle between Spock and Spock One on Organia, Captain James T. Kirk (due to the effects of the thought-shield) saw Spock as a statue made of red-hot brass. (TOS novel: Spock Must Die!)
