The Kerala firing the broadside combat module.
The broadside combat module was a 23rd century Federation weapons technology, a combat module firing a broadside of phaser beams. This special weapon console was installed aboard the tier 6-rated Kerala-class temporal battlecruiser. (STO website: Unveiled: The 15th Anniversary Starship Bundle)
History and specifics[]
Shocked by the V'ger incident in the year 2373[1], Starfleet's Advanced Starship Design Bureau and the Department of Experimental Concepts and Applications overhauled Starfleet under the Total Modification Programme in less than ten years in the 2270s decade. This included reinterpreting classic spaceframes with upgraded materials, computers and weapons. The Kerala-class was one of these TMP-era starships and became Starfleet's "broadside battlecruiser". Starfleet fitted the USS Kerala with the broadside combat module. It used power system adjustments to trigger a swift barrage of phaser beams covering the ship's port and starboard broadside arcs simultaneously. The beams fired in a 90-degree arc at a 10 kilometer range from either side, affecting opponents within range. Each hit disabled a target's impulse subsystem for 1 second. The broadside combat module was standard issue for Kerala-clas temporal battlecruisers operated by Federation Starfleet and other Khitomer Alliance members. Categorised as a universal console, this device could be fitted on other combat-ready Khitomer Alliance starships. The beams fired from this device were equivalent to a pulse phaser beam array.
