A brown hole is a purported type of phenomena, supposedly an obscure and possibly dangerous spatial anomaly that is named similarly to a black hole.

History and specifics[]

In the early 2380s decade, the Federation starship USS Vancouver was pulled from a mission of trade talks with the Karemma at Starbase Deep Space 9 in order to evacuate a colony in the Hasparga star system that reported the formation of a brown hole. When Captain Carol Freeman heard about the brown hole and was informed that she had to step in for Captain Nguyen at the last minute, she exclaimed that brown holes were "not even a thing!", upon which Buenamigo cut communications. (LDs episode: "Hear All, Trust Nothing")

With the revelation that Buenamigo had been actively attempting to sabotage the peace talk with the Karemma, it is possible that the "brown hole" might not exist. (LDs episode: "The Stars at Night")
