Biography[]
Professor Butterfield was a brilliant botanist and enjoyed ironic jokes.
In 2364, when the USS Enterprise was pulled off course by a Choraii starship, the Enterprise's suddenly deceleration caused Butterfield to fall headfirst into a caudifera and suffer a skull fracture. He remained unconscious even after Doctor Beverly Crusher healed the fracture, but eventually he woke up. At one point during his recovery in sickbay, he requested a caudifera salad for lunch. (TNG novel: The Children of Hamlin)
