"CDS" was a three-letter prefix appearing before the name of Cardassian Union starships. This prefix was in use by the 24th century. (TNG video game: Birth of the Federation)

CDS may stand for Cardassian Defense Ship.

History and specifics[]

This prefix had been superseded in use by "CUV" by the 25th century. In the 2410s decade, the CUV Damar carried the CUV prefix. (STO - The Iconian War mission: "Midnight")

In the 25th century, CDS (Caitian Diaspora Ship) was also a three-letter prefix used by the Federation members of Cait, the Caitians. CDS was the default prefix for Caitian ships like the CDS Aspero. (STO - House Divided mission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")

Mirror universe[]

In the First Splinter[1] timeline permutation of the mirror universe, CDS was the three-letter prefix used by the Cardassian Union and its Obsidian Order during the reign of the Klingon-Cardassian Alliance. In the 2370s, the CDS Koranak carried the CDS prefix, for instance. (ST - Mirror Universe novel: Rise Like Lions)
